New material by me - I thought I was logged in as Rupertlt
Page on William Cobbett
I just picked up Cottage Economy and looked Cobbett up before starting to read it. Good article. Will add some stuff about his views on agriculture when I have read it. In the mean time added a few references etc. Justinc 23:35, 19 September 2005 (UTC)
Race
[edit]It is true that Cobbett criticised Jews, but he said the same things about Quakers. He said that the Jews were better than the Quakers, as some of the Jews " do work." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.150.99.135 (talk) 14:02, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
Cobbett regarded the Quakers as entirely devoted to speculation in grain.
- It would be helpful to get any reference at all for what Cobbett said about Jews and Quakers. At the moment, the horribly written lead states that Cobbett didn't like Jews. I am going to rewrite the lead, to clean it up and make it more comprehensible. Unless Cobbett's dislike for Jews is a defining aspect of his life's work (I read the article and don't find evidence of that; he disliked a lot of people and causes, and felt strongly about many things), I am going to remove and relocate the part about Jews. Cobbett seems to have a devoted following right up through the present day, so if there are any objections to my efforts to improve this article, please let's discuss them here.--FeralOink (talk) 07:41, 4 July 2022 (UTC)

"Treasonous libel"
[edit]This is not an offence known to law; the only references to the expression I can find are in relation to Cobbett. Should it say "seditious libel" instead? Hairy Dude (talk) 14:29, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
